Apprenticeships allow participants to earn while they learn, without student loans or fees – and they are proving an increasingly popular way to continue in education without going to college.

Structured training programmes allow apprentices work towards a qualification and gain the skills and knowledge needed to succeed. Apprenticeship schemes provide hands-on training and experience and help apprentices become confident in the work environment.

“We are organising an Apprenticeship Fair to promote the many different routes that people can take to continue in, or return to Employment and Training,” according to Paul Hayes, Education Coordinator with Northside Partnership. “Re-training and up skilling is very much on the agenda for the vast majority of the population.  It is one of the key roles of Northside Partnership to facilitate the community of Dublin Northeast in exploring their options in the area of apprenticeships as well as facilitating education providers from within its catchment and beyond with an opportunity to promote their courses and initiatives”.

There are now hundreds of types of apprenticeships schemes from fields as diverse as construction to accountancy and mechanics to business.

A wide range of employers will attend the fair across all fields of employment, including hairdressing, catering, engineering, healthcare, finance and hospitality.  Employers and training providers will highlight a vast array of programmes available in the locality.

For the employer, it is a cost-effective way of employing new workers, whilst for the apprentice, it offers an accelerated option to becoming fully qualified. Apprenticeship programmes help develop skilled work forces across many sectors and are helping rebuild the economy post-pandemic.

Residents of the Darndale, Belcamp and Moatview areas interested in an apprenticeship have been urged to attend the Northside Partnership Apprenticeship Fair. A bus will run from Darndale’s Sphere 17 at 11.00am on the day.
