The Northside Partnership is continuously evolving to meet the needs of our communities and in particular those at risk of poverty and disadvantage. When the Partnership was first established in 1991, our remit was to tackle long term unemployment and build a self sustaining community. We quickly recognised that long-term unemployment was only one contributing factor and indeed the net result of many other underlying issues that were part of the root cause of social exclusion. Through working with the community we came to realise that the real solution was to empower individuals with the tools and confidence to know that they could make a difference for themselves, their community and their futures. Social exclusion is no longer purely about jobs and while job creation and skills are important they are only one part of the solution. Today we work with those who are at risk of being marginalised and excluded by virtue of their age, gender, disability, addiction or education. We work in partnership with community organisations, employers, trade unions, educators, government departments and agencies and public representatives. We support and assist people to help themselves, whether it is preparing to enter or re-enter the workforce, address educational needs, training, parenting skills, youth leadership or to run their own businesses. At the Northside Partnership we are proud of our role as a pivotal part of a sustainable community where we connect individuals and their needs with solutions. Working in a multicultural environment we engage with the community and individuals to develop meaningful solutions based on partnership.
