Masters in Education Programme PDF Print E-mail

The Education Department of NUI Maynooth was asked by Northside Partnership to put in place a dedicated Masters in Education degree for teachers teaching in schools located within the Northside Partnership area.

We are delighted to let you know that In September 2011 the first group of 19 local teachers who participated were conferred in NUI Maynooth having successfully completed the 2 year Masters programme.

The next two year programme will commence in September 2012 with conferring taking place in September 2014. The Partnership are currently inviting applications from qualified teachers from the area.

An information workshop is planned to take place in February 2012 following which registrations will take place with NUI Maynooth.  The closing date for receipt of applications is May 2012.

The content of the programme includes:

Three core subjects:

  • Equality and Diversity
  • The School as a Learning Environment
  • Research Methods

On top of this, there will be Units of Study, with topics such as:

  • Classroom Management Skills
  • Working in an Intercultural Environment
  • Developing Positive Relationships with Parents
  • Special Educational Needs in the Classroom
  • Educational Disadvantage

Participants will be required to complete essays on two of the above topics (your choice)

Alongside these subject areas, there will be seminars, study groups and research working groups.  Maynooth are also exploring the possibility of a Summer School.

The location of the lectures will be shared between NUI Maynooth and Colaiste Dhulaigh, Coolock.

Entry Requirements

Whilst these will have to be agreed, it is envisaged that we will take students on their individual merits.  Therefore, whilst it is desirable that participants will have an honours undergraduate degree, we will also take their experience in education into account.  We hope that no potential participant will be denied entry.

Fees

The agreed fees with NUI Maynooth is€6,200 for the 2 year programme.
