The Preparing for LifeNorthside Partnership Preparing for Life Programme is a unique early intervention initiative that focuses on outcomes for children. Preparing for Life aims to help parents do the best that they can for their children by offering them additional support. It is hoped that this extra help will make it easier for parents to bring up healthy, happy children, who are better prepared for school.

Preparing For Life will aim to work with 200 families in the Moatview, Belcamp, Newtown Court Darndale, Ferrycarrig, Greencastle, Macroom and Glin areas including the Travelling Community over the next 5 years.  Participation is voluntary and is open to any parents expecting a child regardless of family circumstances.

The Preparing for Life Programme also works to facilitate local communities and agencies to work together and measure progress rigorously through independent evaluation.

The Atlantic Philanthropies and Office of the Minister for Children have provided funding for the Programme.

Note:

Research carried out by the Northside Partnership in 2004 in the Darndale, Belcamp and Moatview areas revealed that out of 96 children surveyed, 50% of children were not ready for school when they enter the educational environment. This research along with 4 years of planning with the communities and local agencies has resulted in the launch of the Preparing for Life Programme.
