Education Trust

The Background

graduation.jpgThe Education Trust was established in 2002 to support the educational opportunities of students from welfare dependent/low income backgrounds living in the Northside Partnership area. Research has shown that young people from priority districts in the Partnership area are leaving school early, not participating in third level education and not achieving adequate qualifications from education.

As a consequence, the Trust was set up to create a local fund, which could be used to provide scholarships to students who are interested in furthering their education but who lack the means to do so. This Trust is funded by local businesses, charitable organisations and individual donors who make an annual donation, as well as funds raised from annual Golf Classics.

The Scholarship Scheme

Scholarships are advertised in May of each year and then representatives of the donor companies' interview potential beneficiaries. Based on this process scholarships of  €1,000 - €3,000 are provided to Partnership area students wishing to attend third level courses outside the greater Dublin area. These courses can be at Certificate, Diploma or Degree level.

The scholarships are subject to the following conditions:

  • The student's family home must be in the Northside Partnership area.
  • The student must be welfare-dependent or on low income (over 23) or their family must be welfare-dependent/low-income (under 23).  Proof of income will be required
  • The applicant must have secured a place on a recognised, full-time, third level course.
  • They must be attending college outside of the greater Dublin area

Scholarships are awarded subject to:

All students applying for a scholarship must provide a personal statement (approximately 200 words), alongside a completed application form, as well as a reference from the principal of their most recent school.  As proof of income, applicants must present a Statement of Income and /or a P21.

Successful applicants will receive an annual scholarship for the duration of their course subject to satisfactory performance and successful completion of all their exams.

The scholarships will help students with the practical costs of attending college, such as rent, travel, books, equipment, childcare and fees. All payments are made when invoices or receipts are furnished.  No cash payments will be made.
